HiveOS — What coins are worth mining on ASICs?

What coins are worth mining on ASICs?

Is there a list of top cryptocurrencies for mining on ASICs? Not really. Each ASIC model is designed for a specific algorithm. This means that you cannot mine any desired coin on these devices — you will have to choose the one that suits the algorithm of your device. That is why, when choosing an ASIC, you should first of all choose a coin. Decide what cryptocurrency you want to mine and, based on this, choose the appropriate model. In this article, we will tell you which ASICs are suitable for mining the most popular and expensive coins.

The prices of all cryptocurrencies mentioned in the article are indicated as of June 3, 2021 (source — CoinLore).

Bitcoin!

Price: over $39,000
Algorithm: SHA-256
Why it is worth mining: due to its high value, BTC is now the leading cryptocurrency.

You can mine BTC on devices that support the SHA-256 algorithm. There are a lot of suitable models, and here are some of them:

  • Bitmain Antminer T9 / S9 / S9k / S9se
  • Bitmain Antminer S17 / S17 Pro / S17+/ S17E / T17 / T17+ / T17E
  • Bitmain Antminer T19 / S19 / S19 Pro
  • Bitmain Antminer S15 / T15
  • Whatsminer M20S
  • Innosilicon T3

Please note that Bitmain S9, T9, and T17 and S17 series are compatible with the Hiveon ASIC firmware. Using this firmware, you can achieve one of the following scenarios:

  • Increase the hashrate, while the power consumption will not change
  • Reduce power consumption, while the hashrate will not change
  • Maximize the hashrate, which will also increase power consumption

Other advantages of the firmware include autotuning of problematic and worn-out chips, temperature and hashrate watchdogs, a wattmeter, and so on. In addition, the firmware can be easily and quickly integrated with the Hiveon OS management and monitoring system.

Bitcoin Cash!

Price: over $700
Algorithm: SHA-256
Why it is worth mining: BCH is much cheaper than BTC, but compared to most other coins, this cryptocurrency is still one of the most expensive ones.

The BCH cryptocurrency is based on the same algorithm as BTC. This means that the same devices that we have listed for Bitcoin mining are suitable for mining this coin.

Choose devices for more than just energy efficiency and overclocking capabilities. Also consider their availability, availability of parts and service centers, complexity of management, and cost. Fortunately, the list of ASICs that support SHA-256 is quite long. This means that you can definitely find a model that will meet all your needs.

Litecoin!

Price: over $190
Algorithm: Scryp
Why it is worth mining: the Scrypt algorithm is very reliable as blockchain.

The best devices for mining LTC are ASIC Antminer L3+ and L3++ from Bitmain. Their chips were specially designed for mining cryptocurrencies of the Scrypt algorithm. In addition, they are more powerful than any other device that may be suitable for LTC mining. The L3+ model allows you to reach 504 MH/s, and with L3++ you can achieve 580 MH/s. Another plus of these models is that it is very difficult for them to overheat.

L3+ and L3++ can be “upgraded” with the Hiveon ASIC firmware. With it, you can overclock devices up to 720 MH/s on the stock power supply.

Zcash!

Price: over $170
Algorithm: Equihash
Why it is worth mining: ZEC has a pretty high value. In addition, this cryptocurrency is very reliable — you can conduct transactions completely anonymously.

For mining ZEC, Bitmain Antminer Z9 is suitable, as it also works on the Equihash algorithm. With it, you can achieve a hashrate of 42 ksol/s. This model even has a “mini” version — the Bitmain Antminer Z9 Mini. Its hashrate is only 10 ksol/s, but at the same time it consumes only 300 W, while a "full-fledged" device needs 970 W. If Z9 is hard to find in your area, consider any other device of the Bitmain Z series. They are all based on the Equihash algorithm.

Ethereum!

Price: over $2,800
Algorithm: Ethash
Why it is worth mining: due to its high value, ETH is also one of the top coins. However, you should not forget about the upcoming transition of ETH to PoS. When this happens and the changes finally take effect, any equipment, both ASICs and video cards, will become useless in terms of mining ETH.

It is worth mentioning that for mining ETH, video cards are usually used, not ASICs — in most cases this is more profitable. However, this does not mean that ETH cannot be mined on ASICs. Bitmain Antminer G2 can be used to mine this coin. On this device, you can achieve a hashrate of 220 MH/s. Another option is Innosilicon A10 Pro+ ETH, with a hashrate of 750 MH/s. In addition, Bitmain announced a new model — Antminer E9 with a hashrate of 3 GH/s. Sounds impressive, but the company has not announced a release date for the model yet. It is possible that when it comes out, the era of ETH 2.0 will already come.

Remember that buying any equipment for mining ETH requires careful calculations, and this applies not only to ASICs, but also to video cards. However, with ASICs it is still more difficult, because models based on the Ethash algorithm will definitely become useless after ETH 2.0. Will your devices have time to pay off and bring you at least some profit before ETH mining turns into staking?

Perhaps mining on ASICs seems more difficult to you than mining on GPU rigs. On the one hand, this is true, because ASICs are designed exclusively for mining, and for mining coins of a specific algorithm. Video cards in this regard are more versatile, but at the same time it is very difficult to get really effective cards now. Demand exceeds supply, and the prices asked by sellers are usually much higher than those recommended by manufacturers. In any case, be smart about the matter and be extra careful if you plan to mine ETH or ETC.

Also, do not forget to follow the rates of coins yourself. In this list, we have analyzed the cryptocurrencies that are the most profitable today, but the situation can change at any time.

Mine easily and profitably!
